Designing an office space takes time, thought, and effort – planning and designing the digital workplace requires thoughtful preparation too. Not only are digital tools used for productivity, but they are the main physical link to the company. Suddenly, your only opportunities to engage employees and make room for innovation are in the devices that sit in front of them.
Establish your culture from the beginning. Communicate expectations and priorities clearly, and take action to show employees they are valued. Often, we are close to those we interact with frequently. It’s true in the office, and true virtually as well. Encourage social capital and connections across departments, especially with new employees. Make introductions and facilitate conversation. The digital environment you create for your people will determine your culture. Be intentional about what that will be.
Start with the right devices, but don’t stop there. Whether the right tool is a Lenovo laptop with Intel vPro or a Chromebook with VMware Horizon, that’s only the first step to building a digital culture where people thrive.
