When creating an effective scholastic esports program, it’s essential to generate support along the way from a wide assortment of people and groups who must understand and share your vision:
-
Students – to create awareness, credibility, and interest in esports that appeal to every ability and orientation
-
Parents – to showcase all aspects of the esports program and its benefits to their children
-
Educators and administrators – to gain and solidify buy-in from a diverse group of education colleagues with a special focus on curriculum and career development
-
Local media and influencers – to amplify and advocate for school participation in esports, showcasing outcomes and achievements over time
When communicating an esports vision, it’s important to create a compelling business case answering the question: “Why scholastic esports?” The response should focus on how esports participation benefits student growth, careers, social development, and prospects for the future.
Aligning a scholastic esports program with established institutions (see table for examples) can help bolster credibility and support. Every time you engage with an internal stakeholder (i.e., a principal, school board member, school IT director), consider including an established scholastic esports institutions and SHI to join your effort to build a strong, well-supported program. After all, inclusion is a foundational tenet of esports.
